Donald William Savko

Halfway, MD – Donald William Savko, 85, of Halfway, MD passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital Frederick, MD.

He was born on January 8, 1932 in Homestead, PA to the late William Albert and Anna Josephine Vereb Savko.

He received a certificate in electrical wiring from Penn State University.

Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and also served with the U.S. Coast Guard as an Electricians Mate First Class.

He worked as a self-employed electrician until his retirement. He previously served with the Secret Service Presidential Detail under President Lyndon B. Johnson and served with the Swat Team in Pittsburgh.

He was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God Hagerstown, MD.

He was a previous Boy Scout Leader in the Pittsburgh area.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Marie Cheryl Schweitzer Savko of Halfway, MD and his five children William, Donald Jr., Mary Joy, Diane and Sandra.

He was predeceased by a brother Joseph R. Savko.

Funeral services will be held at Virginia Avenue Church of God 17306 Virginia Avenue Hagerstown, MD on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. A. Paul Harne and Pastor Shawn Bushman officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Monday at the church from 10:00-11:00 am. 

Interment will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery Flintstone, MD at 11:00 am with full military honors.
