Williamsport, MD – Frederick Heppe “Fred” Johnson, 95, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center Hagerstown, MD.

 

He was born on June 11, 1922 in Allentown, PA to the late Frederick Heppe Sr. and Mary Anna Ritter Johnson.

 

He was a 1940 graduate of William Allen High School Allentown, PA, graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and received his Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University.

 

He was employed as a Social Studies Teacher at Hancock High School, Washington County Television Project, and South Hagerstown High School until his retirement in 1984.  Fred went on to substitute for many years in Washington County.

 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving during World War II in the 8th Air Force in the European Theater flying 28 missions over Germany.

 

He was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church Williamsport, MD.  He was very active in the church for many years.

 

He was a past member of Potomac Post #202 American Legion Williamsport, MD; and a current member of Williamsport Lion’s Club.

 

Fred enjoyed spending summers on the shore of Lake Ontario.

 

He is survived by his wife Judy Johnson they were married in October 1962; son Michael F. Johnson and his wife Karin of Pulaski, NY; son Matthew E. Johnson and partner Amy of Sackets Harbor, NY; brother Paul R. Johnson of Vero Beach, FL; also survived by nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a brother Dale M. Johnson.

 

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church 10813 Donelson Dr. Williamsport, MD on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark Sandell officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am.  Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

 

The family request the omission of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
