George W. Woods

HALFWAY, Md. — George W. Woods, 73, of Halfway, Md., passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1944, in Milford, Ky., to the late Clayton Leonard and Lillie Mae Tucker Woods.

He was a 1963 graduate of Bracken County High School, Brooksville, Ky.

George retired from Teamsters Local 992 in Hagerstown, where he was principal officer for 12 years. Most recently he was employed with ABF Trucking in Carlisle, Pa., and he started his career in trucking with Ryder Pie in Hagerstown.

He previously attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport, Md.

He enjoyed cooking, baking and was a very talented woodworker.

He was an avid football fan of the Washington Redskins.

George is survived by his wife, Margaret Woods, whom he married on Aug. 7, 1965; daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Taylor and her husband, Brent, of St. James, Md., daughter, Sheri Evans and her husband, Brian, of Williamsport, Md.; son, Chad Woods and his wife, Lauren, of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, David Woods of Cynthiania, Ky.; grandchildren, Spencer and Emily Taylor, Alexis and Nicholas Evans, and Olivia, Carter, George and Corinne Woods.

He was predeceased by a sister, Janice Florer, and a brother, Stanley Woods.

Services and burial will be private.
