Williamsport, MD – Irma Bowman Shiflett, 73, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at her home.

 

She was born on November 8, 1944 in Martinsburg, WV to the late William Leon Bowman and Ines Pearl Shultz Chaney.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben John “Buddy” Shiflett, Jr. on April 27, 1998.

 

She was a 1962 graduate of Sherwood High School Sandy Springs, MD and attended University of the District of Columbia.

 

Irma retired from the U.S. Public Health Service in April 1995.  Other employment she held while still employed with the U.S. Public Health Service included Friendly Ice Cream Frederick, MD, The World Bazaar Frederick, MD, McCrory’s in Hagerstown, MD and most recently employed as a Secretary with the Potomac Charge United Methodist Church.

 

She was of the Protestant Faith.

 

She was a member of Red Feather Council #59 Degree of Pocahontas of Williamsport, MD. 

 

Irma volunteered with many schools in Washington County.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, loved to travel, and visited all 50 states and many U.S. territories.

 

She is survived by her daughter Theresa “Terry” Shiflett-Moats and her husband Dave of Falling Waters, WV; son Joseph L. Shiflett and his wife Brenda of Martinsburg, WV; sister MaryAnn Hunt of Silver Spring, MD; sister Sandra Bolt of Olney, MD; her companion of many years Roger L. Roach; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and chosen family.

 

She was predeceased by a son Reuben J. “Buff” Shiflett, III.

 

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 pm.  The funeral home will not be open until 6:00 pm.

 

Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dennis Whitmore officiating.  Interment will be in Butler’s Chapel Cemetery Martinsburg, WV.
