Roy Edward Carbaugh, 82, of Kemps Mill Road, Williamsport, MD passed away in the early hours of May 4, 2017 at Pinnacle Health Hospital in Harrisburg, PA after an illness of three months surrounded by his loving family. He was born in State Line, PA, son of the late Obern M. and Julia Sweigert Carbaugh. His family moved to Pinesburg, MD in 1936 where he was raised and spent most of his life.

He was a member of the Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship in Cearfoss, MD.

He received his education at the Pinesburg and Williamsport Schools.  In June, 1962, he graduated from the Esso Retail School at Baltimore, MD. 

In his early years, he assisted his father often with the family business, Carbaugh Signs. As an adult, he was associated with Esso, later known as Exxon. He owned and operated Williamsport Esso/Exxon from 1967 until 2004 when he retired. During his years at the service station, he received several awards, including the Maryland Petroleum Association's 1969 Service Station of the Year award. He was always a supporter of the Williamsport community organizations. He loved country and bluegrass music, enjoyed restoring antique cars, spending time with family and friends and collecting anything Esso/Exxon.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Sword Carbaugh, whom he married on June 17, 1955; daughter Debra Carbaugh Robinson and husband Frederick L Robinson of Williamsport, MD; daughter Terry Ann Stone of Sharpsburg, MD; granddaughters Patricia Lynn Robinson of Williamsport, MD; Andrea Stone of Boonsboro, MD and a grandson, Ryan Stone and wife Katie of Vienna, VA. He is survived by his brother, Lloyd E. Carbaugh and wife Judy of Pinesburg, MD; several nieces and nephews; his 3 furry friends Ming, Callie and Markie and his best friends Jerry Reid and Ralph Young. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Obern Carbaugh in August 1932, nephew Drew Carbaugh and great-nephew Arthur Drew Carbaugh.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 9, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 South Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795.  For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open Tuesday at 9:00am.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at 1:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Ernest Witmer officiating.  Burial will be private.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doctor Bear’s Closet, Volunteer Services Office Rm 1180, Children’s National Medical Center, 111 Michigan Avenue NW Washington, DC 20010-2970 or a charity of one’s choice.
