Shirley L. McFarland

Williamsport, MD – Shirley L. McFarland, 82, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Doey’s Hospice House of Washington County.

She was born on August 1, 1935 in Williamsport, MD to the late William Resley “Bodie” Sr. and Mary Margaret Bryan Turner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Joseph C. McFarland on January 27, 1989.

Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Williamsport High School Williamsport, MD.

She was employed by Dr. Chan in Hagerstown, MD until her retirement.  She was previously employed by Washington County Hospital, Hospital of Manassas, and Allied Chemical of Richmond, Virginia.

In her early years she was a floral arranger and enjoyed knitting.

Mrs. McFarland moved back to Williamsport, MD in 1989 where she enjoyed many walks through the Williamsport Park and Potomac River Bottom.

Shirley was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church Williamsport, MD and previously was a member of First Christian Church in Cameron, WV where she helped her husband for many years who was the Minister.

She is survived by her daughter Shirlynn Miller Shafer and her fiance’ Keith Gould of Easton, MD; grandson Nathanial R. “Nate” Shafer of Easton, MD; brother William R. “Billy” Turner, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Williamsport, MD; brother in law Michael D. Myers of Halfway, MD; brother in law Paul Bowers of Falling Waters, WV; 2 nieces and 6 nephews.

Her grandson Nathan was her Pride and Joy.

She was predeceased by three sisters Patti L. Myers, Alice M. Bowers, and G. Jean Crumbacker.

A celebration of life will be held at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Tim Moffitt officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 am.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, MD.
