Violet Kathleen Grove

Hagerstown, MD – Violet Kathleen Grove, 98, of Hagerstown, MD and passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Julia Manor Healthcare Hagerstown, MD.

She was born on December 24, 1919 in Pearre, Maryland to the late Charles Franklin and Ada Louise Sipes Hofe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Isaac Grove on May 30, 1967.

She was a 1935 graduate of Clear Spring High School Clear Spring, Maryland where she was Valedictorian of her class.  She also wrote the music for her class song.

She was the Manager of the Bon Ton formerly Eyerly’s until her retirement in 1978.

Violet was a member of Grace United Methodist Church Hagerstown, MD.  She played the piano for Sunday School and other church functions.

She prepared and served meals to shut-ins at Walnut Towers and provided transportation to the residents.

She volunteered at various Nursing Homes in the area.  She played the piano at Nursing Facilities, Hospitals, and Community Organizations for over 30 years.

Music and playing the piano were the love of her life and she wrote poetry and music.

She was nominated by Wally McClure and featured as an Honorary Volunteer for Washington County.

Violet is survived by her daughter Kathleen L. Dayhoff-Fischel of Hagerstown, MD; son Terry C. Grove of Hagerstown, MD; daughter in law Connie Grove of Falling Waters, WV; sister Lorraine Carter of Hagerstown, MD; sister Ruth B. Moore of Hagerstown, MD; sister Genevive Haupt of Hagerstown, MD; sister Mary Louise Hess of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren Tammy Vietti of Charlotte Hall, MD, Alysia Sholty of Fairplay, MD, and Brittany Michael of Clear Spring, MD; 6 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; longtime friend Robert Alvaro of Hedgesville, WV.

She was predeceased by a son Wayne N. Grove; sister Alene May; brothers Clyde Hofe and Kenneth Hofe; son in law John R. Dayhoff; son in law Dr. Robert C. Fischel; and daughter in law Nina C. Grove.

A memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church Hagerstown, MD on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Curtis Ehrgott officiating.
