William Baker Obituary

Fairplay, MD – William Eugene “Bill” Baker, 88, of Fairplay, MD passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Doey’s House Hagerstown, MD.  He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather whose life was centered around his family.

He was born on November 27, 1935, in Hagerstown, MD, the only child of the late Edgar William and Grace Virginia (Messner) Baker.

Bill was a 1953 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964.

He was employed by Mack Trucks, Inc. Hagerstown, MD for 35 years until his retirement.

He was a Lutheran and had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg, MD, and Salem Lutheran Church in Bakersville, MD.

Bill loved sports, participating when he was young and attending his grandchildren’s games later in life.  He was a lifelong fan of the University of Maryland Terrapins football and basketball teams.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann Elizabeth (Vickers) Baker whom he married on June 15, 1963; daughter Holly Diane Spickler and her husband John; son Brad Lee Baker and his wife Melissa; son Bryan Scott Baker and his wife Gulya; 8 adored grandchildren Lauren Spickler, Garrett Baker, Joshua Spickler, Grant Baker, Dany Baker, Justin Spickler, Russell Baker, and Aya Baker.

A memorial service will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 3:00 pm with Rev. Darrell L. Layman officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
