Clear Spring, Maryland- Carl William Hendershot passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord at Doey’s House on Friday July 20, 2018 in Hagerstown, MD at the age of 83.
Carl is survived by his wife Joan (Price) Hendershot of Clear Spring, MD; sons Gary, Jay and Donnie Hendershot of Clear Spring, MD; son Curtis Hendershot of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Sharon Martin of Clear Spring, MD; and daughter Carlene Gaylor of Hagerstown, MD. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 5brothers Eugene, Warren, Mack, Perry and Larry Hendershot and 3 sisters Ruth Price, Ruby Roessner and Darlene Householder.
He was preceded in death by his sister Alice Miller and a grandson Cody Butts.
Carl was born on January 12, 1935 in Clear Spring, MD to the late Virgil E. and Madeline L. Barnhart Hendershot. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1952 and worked at Maugansville Elevator & Lumber Co. from 1952-1957.
Carl married Joan in 1956 and they shared a godly marriage their family admired for 61 years before he passed away. Together the couple lovingly raised 6 children. Carl started farming in 1957 and he bonded with his wife and children daily while working on the dairy farm. He proudly passed his farming talents to 2 of his sons, and he shared his enjoyment for auto racing with his sons, who still race sprint cars together. Carl brought much joy and laughter to his family by sharing exciting stories from his younger years. His family and friends remember him as a hard-working, caring man with a generous heart inspired by his faith in the Lord. He was a charter member of the thriving Harvest Baptist Church in Hagerstown, MD.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at Harvest Baptist Church in Hagerstown, MD on Tuesday July 24, 2018 at 6:00pm with Pastor James Moore officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carl’s life. Interment will be private.
