Clyde Wellington Crabtree, Sr.

Big Pool, MD – Clyde Wellington Crabtree, Sr., 82, of Big Pool, MD passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017.

He was born on February 27, 1935 at home in Cumberland, MD to the late Gilbert W. and Mary E. (Hott) Crabtree.

Clyde was a 1954 graduate of Oldtown High School.

After his first job of picking fruit on Warrior Mountain, he was employed as a carpenter for various companies building homes and commercial sites up and down the East Coast. He became an employee of the Federal Government and ended his career supporting the Department of the Army at Arlington National Cemetery where he was known as a jack of all trades for 28 years.  He received a multitude of commendations from the Department of the Army including his most prized one for standing his post and rendering assistance during the Pentagon attack on September 11.

He was an avid hunter and tinkerer.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, family gatherings, and working in his yard on his John Deere.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, M. Lois Ankeney Crabtree; son Clyde W. (Pete) Crabtree, Jr. of Big Pool, MD; daughter M. (Kathy) Manley and her husband (Donnie) of Frederick, MD; son Sean D. Crabtree, Sr. of Oldtown, MD; grandchildren Sean Jr., Kelly, Kristina, and Kourtney; soon to be great grandson Bryce; ex daughter- in- law Kimberly Crabtree of Silver Spring, MD; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Daisy.

He will be joining his previously departed siblings, Juanita Ark, Donald E. Crabtree, Ken Crabtree, Stanley O. Crabtree, and Marlin Crabtree to continue the loving relationship they maintained here.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating.  Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery Clear Spring, MD.
