Hagerstown, Maryland- Edwin Lee Hartle, 83 of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away on Thursday April 6, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center.


Born August 6, 1933 in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Arthur Ellsworth and Pauline Mae Miller Hartle.


He was a heavy equipment operator for many years retiring from C.L. Milburn and Son Excavating and Construction.  He was also a farmer.


He was a member of Calvary Temple in Williamsport, MD where he previously served as a trustee.  He did missionary work overseas with his family for about 5 years in the Philippines, Guyana and Ecuador.  He built a church and a bible school building in the Philippines.  He was very active in the church and ministry as a lay minister and Sunday school teacher.  For the last 25 years, he and his wife operated Hartle’s Produce at their home on National Pike where they grew and sold produce.  They were famous for their “Landcress”.


Edwin is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary (Mentzer) Hartle, a daughter Janet L. Taylor of Hagerstown, MD, 5 grandchildren Clint, Angela, Heidi, Jonathan and Arthur and 8 great grandchildren Amira, Jasmine, Sophia, River, Ember, Jonathan, Noah and Alexandria.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gregory L. Hartle, a sister Barbara Weese and a brother Richard Hartle. 


The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Tuesday April 11, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm.  For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Tuesday at 9:00am.


Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 11:00am at Calvary Temple in Williamsport, MD with Rev. Robert V. Robinson and Rev. Lauren Yost officiating.  Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown, MD.
