Emmett Abbott

Tilghmanton, Maryland-Emmett Abbott, 95 of Tilghmanton, MD and a recent resident of Somerford Assisted Living in Hagerstown, MD passed away on Tuesday August 27, 2019 at Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport, MD.

Born December 5, 1923 in Luray, VA, he was the son of the late Peter Simeon and Mary Frances Ruffner Abbott.

A self-made man of many talents, Emmett owned and operated Abbott’s Well Drilling and Excavating Company along with numerous land development corporations.  He was instrumental in numerous land development ventures along the east coast.  A friend to all he met, he will be missed for his robust personality and most of all his love of life and working environment.  He lived his retirement years in his sub division on a street named in his honor.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg, MD, a member of the NRA, AARP, Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM Williamsport, MD, the Washington County Republican Club along with many other clubs and organizations.  He enjoyed hunting geese on the eastern shore and eating Maryland crabs.

Emmett is survived by his wife of 75 years Helen Virginia Kibler Abbott who resides at Greenfield Assisted Living in Hagerstown, MD, a brother Homer S. Abbott of Hagerstown, MD, a nephew Leon Abbott and his wife Sharon along with other numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Emmett Edwin Abbott in 2010, 3 sisters Blanche Wade, Marjorie Griffith and Elizabeth McFarland and 3 brothers Marvin Abbott, Leo “Jack” Abbott and Marion Abbott.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 30, 2019 at 6:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD with Rev. Richard G. Hembrock officiating.  The family will receive friends on Friday 2 hours prior to the service from 4:00-6:00pm.  For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open Friday at 1:00pm.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday August 31, 2019 at 11:00am at Beahms Chapel Cemetery 242 Rocky Branch Rd. Luray, VA 22835.
