Hagerstown, MD- George William “Bill” Knight, Jr. Esquire, 85, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Williamsport Retirement Village Williamsport, MD.

 

He was born on July 30, 1932 in Downsville, MD to the late George Perry and Mary Florence Jamison Knight.

 

He was a graduate of Boonsboro High School Boonsboro, MD.  He was also a graduate of the University of Nebraska Omaha, Nebraska and a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law.

 

Bill was an Attorney and retired from the public defender’s office with the State of Maryland.  He was a private Attorney for many years in Washington County, Maryland.

 

He retired after 20 years from the U.S. Air Force as a Tech Sgt.  He served during Korea and Vietnam.

 

He was a lifetime member of Antietam Post #236 American Legion Sharpsburg, MD and a lifetime member of Amvets Post #10 Hagerstown, MD.

 

He was Chef de Gare of the 40 / 8 Voitore 651, IORM Tribe #84 Williamsport, MD, Eagles Club Hagerstown, MD, Owl’s Club of Hagerstown, MD, Hagerstown Suns Fan Club Member, Maryland Bar Association, F.O.P. of Hagerstown, MD, Tri State Bluegrass Association, and a Mason.

 

Bill is survived by his daughter Ashlie Knight of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Melanie Sylvester of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Katie Knight of Hopkins, MN; son Rhett Knight of Pasedena, MD; son at heart Chris Cook of Hagerstown, MD; brother Gene Knight of Sharpsburg, MD; brother Warren Knight of Sharpsburg, MD; sister Rosalie Jamison of Sharpsburg, MD; sister Connie Cooper of Sharpsburg, MD; sister Betty Campbell of Sharpsburg, MD; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

He was predeceased by three brothers Luther Leon Knight, Kenneth Knight, and Arthur Knight; and two sisters Wauneta Griffith and Hattie Viola Grim.

 

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.

 

Services will be private.
