Williamsport, MD – George Franklin “Bus” Knode, Jr., 82, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at his home.


He was born on January 16, 1935 in Hagerstown, MD to the late George Franklin Knode Sr. and K. Hanna Bowser Poffenberger.


He was a 1953 graduate of Williamsport High School. After high school George went to Johns Hopkins University where he studied Electrical Engineering, went on to further his education receiving 2 Master’s degrees and a Doctorate Degree.


He was employed as an Electrical Engineer with Vitro in Silver Spring, MD, until his retirement in 2012.  Prior to that he was employed with Johns Hopkins in the Applied Physics Lab, prior to that he was with Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD.


For many years he owned and operated George’s Dive Shop in Williamsport, MD.


George was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Williamsport, MD.


He was a member of the NRA.  He was very active with Troop 17 BSA and was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow and was a Scout Master for many years with Troop 17.  He belonged to the Scouts on Stamps Society. 


George was an avid Scuba Diver and Instructor.  He instructed at the YMCA in Hagerstown for many years.


He was a social member of the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.


He was involved with Hamm Radio for many years.


George is survived by his daughter Susan D. Knode of Williamsport, MD; daughter Melissa A. Davis and her husband Albert of Falling Waters, WV; son George F. Knode, III of Williamsport, MD; brother Gerald L. Knode of Williamsport, MD; brother Richard Knode of St. Louis, Missouri; brother Philip Knode of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Hanna Grace Davis and Joshua W. Gross; former wife and friend Kathleen M. Knode; special caregiver Sherry Chaney.


He was predeceased by two brothers John Knode and Gary Knode.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD with Pastor Kim Nunberg officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Friday from 3:00-4:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.
