Heath Mentzer Obituary

Heath Walter Mentzer, 46, of Antietam, Md., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1971, in Leesburg, Va., to Frank Wilbert “K.O.” and Faith Amelia Parker Mentzer of Sharpsburg Pike.

He was a 1989 graduate of Williamsport (Md.) High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Shepherd College in 1993.

Heath was employed as a software engineer at Digital Receiver Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Boeing Corp. in Germantown, Md. He was previously employed by PB Farradyne, Orbital Sciences Corp., and Optim Electronics.

In his early years, he attended Christ Reformed Church UCC in Hagerstown, Md.

He coached baseball at South Mountain Little League and Conococheague Little League and softball at Sharpsburg Little League, Frederick Terror Fast Pitch Softball, Antietam Youth Athletic League Softball, and Lady Bombers Softball. He also served as a board member and announcer at Sharpsburg Little League.

He enjoyed singing the national anthem at Sharpsburg Little League, Hagerstown Suns, and Frederick Keys baseball games.

Heath also enjoyed restoring the family home in Antietam, working on cars with his son, and 6 a.m. workouts at Shepherd Wellness Center with his daughter.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janice Marlene Blackburn Mentzer; daughter, Hayden Alyse Mentzer, at home; son, Jathan Thomas Mentzer, at home; brother, Clifford Daniel Jones and his wife, Kim, and their son, Parker, of Foxfield, Colo.; maternal grandfather, Homer Clifford Parker; beloved canine, Lucy Alexandra; and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. on Sunday for the convenience of family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Stevenson officiating.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Lady Bombers Softball, c/o Boonsboro Sports Club, 20629 Reno Monument Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
