John Robert Foxen, Ph.D.

Williamsport, MD – John Robert Foxen, Ph.D., 93, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport, MD.

He was born on April 18, 1926 in Cherokee, Iowa to the late John Henry and Florence Ellen Popma Foxen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Barbara Posten Foxen in 1994.

John was the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University in Alfred, New York until retiring in 1988.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II and saw combat.

He was a member of the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church in Shepherdstown, WV.  He was very active in the church.

John was a member of the Shepherdstown Men’s Club in Shepherdstown, WV where he served as Past President.

He was a volunteer Docent at the Shepherdstown Visitors Center.  He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his daughter Rebecca L. Jones and her husband William of Stevensville, MD; son Matthew Posten Foxen of Morgantown, WV.

He was predeceased by his brother Floyd H. Foxen.

A memorial service will be held at Homewood Retirement Center Chapel on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10:30 am with Chaplain Jeff Shull officiating.  A memorial service will be held at his church at a later date.

There will be no viewing and burial will be private.
