Hagerstown, Maryland- Joyce Lee Ott, 82 of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Friday January 25, 2019 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.
Born in Hagerstown, MD on August 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Weller and Rhea Olivia Poole Grove.
She was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School, received her A.A. degree from Hagerstown Junior College and her B.A. degree from Shepherd College.
Joyce was a School Teacher and taught at various schools in Washington County. She was also the Greenhouse Manager at Ott’s Horticulture. She was a 70 year member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hagerstown where she was the founder of the Christian Heirs Sunday School Class and served as the Moppets coordinator. She served as Vice President and chaired various committees with the HJC Alumni Association. She was a member of the Shepherd College Alumni, the Washington County Homemakers and a member of Friends ‘N Spirit singing group where she played the organ.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years J. Richard “Dick” Ott, two sons Rev. Gregory L. Ott and his wife Debbie of Hampton, VA and Brian R. Ott and his wife Karyn of Baltimore, MD, a daughter Karen L. Baer and her husband Mike of Hagerstown, MD, a sister Alice Bair of Williamsport, PA, her loving grandchildren Carie, Hannah, Justin, Taylor, Dylan, Caleb, Ava and Leo, great grandson Cole and step grandchildren Kelsey and Grace and step great granddaughter Adelynne.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Doris Kline.
Memorial services will be held on Friday February 1, 2019 at 11:00am at First Christian Church 1345 Potomac Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742 with Rev. Jake Caldwell officiating. There will be no viewing and burial will be private.
