Mildred Grimes Obituary

Williamsport, MD – Mildred L. Grimes, 91, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family and close friends.

 

She was born on September 22, 1926 in Hagerstown, Maryland to the late George Dewey and Agnes Estella Summers Ambrose.

 

Mill was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard H. Grimes who passed away on November 17, 2009.

 

She was employed by the Federal Silk Mill and Alkahn Label Mill of Williamsport, MD for 30 years until she began a new career with Home Interiors.  Her and her husband together built a thriving business and retired after over 40 years. She was promoted to Manager.  During those years with Home Interiors, Mill was Queen of Home Interiors and was recognized at the National Seminar.  She and her husband retired in 2005.  She made so many close and dear friends during her time in Home Interiors.

 

Mill was dearly loved and will be unbelievably missed by her granddaughter Brandy L. Osborne and her husband Craig of Williamsport, MD; grandson J. Todd Grimes and his wife Stephanie of Falling Waters, WV; great grandchildren Casey N. Osborne, Karli L. Grimes, Colin B. Osborne and Grant T. Shafer; daughter in law Vicki “Chic” Grimes of Williamsport, MD.

 

She is also survived by her sister Helen Morehead of Glen Burnie, MD; sister Virginia Krempels and her husband Robert of Hagerstown, MD; sister Martha Wyand of Williamsport, MD; sister in law Martha Ambrose of Hagerstown, MD; close friends Don and Darlyn Goude of Camden, SC; goddaughter Denise Jones and her husband Philly of Franklin, TN; special and dedicated friends Joanne Davis and Joann Powell; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other close friends to mention.

 

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her loving son Luther “Jay” Grimes who passed away on April 20, 2015, sister Dorothy Reeser, and brothers George Ambrose, Harold “Buzz” Ambrose, and Allen Ambrose.

 

She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God where she was actively involved in the Seniors Group and Women’s Ministry.  She also made the dinners for the functions at church.  She previously was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Choir.

 

Mill loved to cook, bake, and spend time with her family.  There was never a time when someone would walk into to her home that a meal was never offered.

 

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Virginia Avenue Church of God 17306 Virginia Avenue Hagerstown, MD on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 12:00 (noon) with Rev. Don Goude and Rev. Shawn Bushman officiating.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, MD.

 

The family would like to thank all of her family and friends for visiting, and also for your help and support during a difficult time.

 

Mill was a very faithful woman and this was one of the last things she wanted everyone to remember.
