Norman Chapman Obituary

Hagerstown, MD – Norman Stanley Chapman, 95, of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Potomac Valley Nursing and Wellness Center Rockville, Maryland.

 

He was born on April 27, 1922 in Rockingham, Virginia to the late Lemuel Hezekiah Dreher and Clara Mabel Easler Chapman.

 

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Pearl Weller Chapman in 1988.

 

He was a 1940 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1944 graduate of Shepherd College with his Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education.

 

He was employed by the State of Maryland Department of Health for 25 years until retiring in 1983.

 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the European Theater.

 

He was of the Lutheran Faith.

 

He was a member of Morris Frock Post #42 American Legion Hagerstown, MD.

 

Norman enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Antietam Fly Anglers.

 

He is survived by his daughter Linda Chapman of Silver Spring, MD; granddaughter Heather Davis and her husband Alex of Baltimore, MD; 2 great grandchildren;sister Virginia Sagle of Kearneysville, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a son Paul David Chapman, three sisters Mary Ann Russell, Verna Mabel Poffenberger, and Clara E. Chapman, and two brothers Jacob D. Chapman and Hugh Chapman.

 

A private graveside service will be held at Mt. View Cemetery Sharpsburg, MD in the Spring.
