Chambersburg, Pennsylvania- Russell Amos Hess, 65 of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Friday September 21, 2018 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born August 1, 1953 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Alvin Byers Hess and the late Wava Mae Cunningham Hess.
Russ was a 1971 graduate of Greencastle Antrim High School. He worked for 10 years at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, MD and retired in 2006 as a Correctional Officer after 23 years from the Roxbury Correctional Institute in Hagerstown, MD.
He was a member of Salem United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, PA.
He was a PIAA Volleyball and Basketball Official for 20 years and a NCAA and USA volleyball official for 15 years. He also worked security for various organizations in the area.
Russ is survived by his wife of 40 years Carol Lynn Gray Hess, his mother who raised him H. Edalene “Eddie” Hess of Chambersburg, PA, a brother A. Roger Hess and wife Colleen of Davenport, FL, niece Sharon Purdy of Deerfield, KS, nephew Douglas Hess and wife Tiffany of Chambersburg, PA and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a great niece.
There will be no viewing and burial will be private.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 6, 2018 at 2:00pm at Salem United Brethren Church 4349 Letterkenny Rd. Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Jason Bakker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salem United Brethren Church Capital Campaign Fund.
