Terry Taylor Obituary

Williamsport, MD – Terry Neal Taylor, 83, of Williamsport, MD entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, VA.

 

He was the devoted family patriarch and touched an abundant amount of people in his lifetime.

 

He was born on July 3, 1936 in Hagerstown, MD to the late William Ellsworth Taylor and Sylvia Mae Betts Speaker.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Margaret Jessop Taylor in 2014.

 

Terry was a 1954 graduate of Williamsport High School where he was very active in Athletics.  He was a good athlete particularly at pool, bowling, and golf.

 

He was very proud of his 1952 Ford Pickup that has been used numerous times for photo shoots.

 

He was proud to serve in the U.S. Army.

 

He was employed by Washington Star Newspaper Company in Washington, D.C. for 40 years until his retirement.

 

He was an avid motorcyclist with a group of friends that all enjoyed time together.  He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.

 

Terry was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport, MD.  He was a member of the choir, church council and served numerous terms as President of the Council, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship Group.  He was instrumental in the start of the Kinderhaven Daycare program and served as an Assistant Minister.

 

He was also a member of Hagerstown Choral Arts and performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM of Williamsport, MD.  He was also involved in the Boy Scouts in his younger years.

 

Terry was a Freemason.

 

He is survived by his son Michael E. Taylor and his wife Gail of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Teresa L. Taylor and her partner Andy Robertson of Williamsport, MD; his grandchildren whom were the light of his life Phillip Taylor of Harrogate, UK, Austin Taylor of Hagerstown, MD, Amy Taylor of Buffalo, NY, and Sarah Showe of Jacksonville, NC; brother Robert “8 Ball” Taylor of Williamsport, MD; sister Nancy Taulton of Knoxville, MD; step mother Betty Taylor of Williamsport, MD; step brother Stephen Taylor of Germany; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a grandson Joshua Neal Taylor, his grandparents who raised him Elsie and George Poffenberger, and his stepfather William Leon Speaker.

 

Terry lived a full life.  He enjoyed traveling and was able to do so his entire life.

 

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

 

A memorial service will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 35 W. Potomac St. Williamsport, MD on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Kim Nunberg officiating.

The family request the omission of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 35 W. Potomac St. Williamsport, MD 21795 proceeds to benefit Kinderhaven Daycare Program.
