Velma Eloise Cavender

Hagerstown, MD – Velma Eloise Cavender, 91, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at her home.

She was born on December 24, 1925 in Samples Manor, Maryland to the late Thomas Howell and Laura Ethel Giffin Grim.

She was employed by Williamsport Nursing Home Williamsport, MD until her retirement.  She was previously employed by Dorbee’s Manufacturing Hagerstown, MD.

She was a 50 year member of Hagerstown Bible Church Hagerstown, MD.  She was very active in the church for many years.

Velma enjoyed cooking, canning, embroidery, and needlepointing.

She is survived by her daughter Karen D. Gigeous and her husband David of Clear Spring, MD; son Charles W. Cavender, Jr. of Halfway, MD; son in law James L. Cooper, Sr. of Hagerstown, MD; sister Theda Moninger of Hagerstown, MD; sister Betty Kline of Sharpsburg, MD; sister Wilda Crookshank of Martinsburg, WV; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by 2 daughters Beverly Cavender and Cecelia Cooper; sister Bertha Bussard; 2 brothers Gerald Grim and Fonrose Grimm.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Tuesday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dale Carver officiating.  Interment will be in Samples Manor Cemetery Sharpsburg, MD.
