Williamsport, MD – Wayne Eugene “Jack” Byers, 74, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at University of Maryland Medical Center Baltimore, MD.

 

He was born on August 29, 1943 in Williamsport, MD to Evelyn Eloise Jones Byers of Williamsport, MD and the late Wallace Woodrow Byers.

 

He attended Williamsport Schools.

 

He served in the Maryland National Guard.

 

Jack was employed with Redland Brick Cushwa Plant Williamsport, MD for many years until his retirement.  He previously owned and operated with his wife Dottie, Byer’s Busy Corner Restaurant in Williamsport for 25 years. 

 

He was a carpenter for many years, was a master craftsman,  and spent much time remodeling houses.

 

Jack with his brother Mick and other family and friends enjoyed golfing together. Jack also enjoyed working on cars, and playing cornhole.

 

He also enjoyed spending time with family and always had a love for dogs.

 

He was of the Protestant Faith.

 

He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Potomac Post #202 American Legion Williamsport, MD.

 

Besides his mother he is survived by his wife Dorothy Jane “Dottie” Williams Byers whom he married May 8, 1965; daughter Michelle A. Byers-Guessford and her husband Rodney of Williamsport, MD; sister Dolly M. McKimmy of Williamsport, MD; sister Mary B. Carter of Williamsport, MD; brother Wallace F. “Mick” Byers and his wife Carmen of Williamsport, MD; granddaughter Whittney P. Guessford of Williamsport; grandson Donald Wayne Bingaman and his wife Joanna of Williamsport; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Jack was predeceased by an infant son Wayne; three sisters Patricia A. Hays, Emma J. Divelbiss, and Dorothy J. Staley; and one brother John D. Byers.

 

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Joy Zepp officiating.  Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, MD.
