Anna Louise Kilmer, 96 “Louise” of Hedgesville, WV passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on October 29, 2020
Louise was born July 25th, 1924 in Baltimore, MD. She was the only daughter of the late Berkeley P. Hoke and Julia Nelson Hoke-Woodward. Louise married the late George William Kilmer Jr. May 11th, 1942. Louise was a city girl who moved to countryside of West Virginia with no luxuries. Although she was physically disabled “handicapped” was not a word in her vocabulary. Louise never met a stranger in her life. There was always a new story about her escapades on the family farm that she would share with anyone she met. Whether she locked herself in the shed, slipped in some oil in garage, or fell head first into a feed barrel, she could always look back and laugh at herself.
Louise held various positions during her working years including the Jiffy Laundry, Owner Operator of Wilson St. Confectionary, Operator and gas attendant of Hedgesville Texaco, Perfection Garment, C.H. Musselman, High’s Dairy Manager, and the Martinsburg Bon-Ton, which was her favorite position.
Louise was a member of the following organizations where she made many friends and acquaintances throughout her lifetime. She was the President of the Back Creek Valley Senior Satellites; She was a member of the Tomahawk Homemakers Club and Tomahawk Ruritan Club, where she was the eldest member. Louise was also a 50 year member of the Tomahawk Christian Church.
Louise is survived by four children. Joyce Kilmer and special friend Jackie Tingler of Brunswick, Md; Ron Kilmer and wife Pauline of Bonham, Texas; Julia Kidwell and Husband James Fincham of Hedgesville, WV; and Faith Kilmer-Hall and husband Joseph of Hedgesville, WV; One brother, Charles Woodward and wife Karen of Frederick, MD; Six Grandchildren Terry Kilmer, Kevin Kilmer, Brian Kilmer, Brett Kilmer, Zachary Hall, and Anna Greist, as well as numerous Great Grandchildren and her constant companion Molly.
Louise was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, George William Kilmer Jr. ;Son, Charles Roger “Manny” Kilmer; Brother, Willis Nelson “Bud” Hoke; Granddaughter, Samantha Rene’ Reilley, and Great Granddaughter Kirsten Kilmer.
“To the Old Rugged Cross I will ever be true, It’s shame and reproach gladly bear, Then He’ll call me someday to my home faraway, where His glory forever I’ll share.”
The family will receive friends on Wednesday November 4, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Tomahawk Christian Church 12896 Back Creek Valley Rd. Hedgesville, WV 25427. The church will open at 5pm on Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 5 at 11:00am at the church with Pastor Lee Ashley and Pastor Christian Jorgensen officiating. Burial will follow at Tomahawk Christian Church Cemetery.
