Maugansville, MD – Barbara Eileen Sword, 80, of Maugansville, MD passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center Hagerstown, MD.
She was born on June 8, 1937 in Antietam Furnace, Maryland to the late Gilbert Ray Sr. and Hattie Anna Elizabeth Gray Crampton.
She was a 1955 graduate of Boonsboro High School Boonsboro, Maryland.
Barb partnered with her husband Fred for 49 years as owner’s of the Roto-Rooter franchise in Hagerstown and Frederick and later their son Rick joined the family business. Barb and Fred also owned and operated Sword’s Markets in Hagerstown.
She was of the Protestant Faith.
She was a member of West End Lioness Club. She was also a Judge with the Washington County Election Board.
Barb really enjoyed family gatherings especially with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her many friends.
She loved to read, crochet, play cards, gardening, and also enjoyed cooking.
She is survived by her husband Fred Sword whom she married April 21, 1957; son Rick Sword and his wife Rita of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Roxanne Witmer and her husband Junior of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Lana Houser of Maugansville, MD; daughter Brenda Thomas and her husband Tracy of Boonsboro, MD; sister Viola Marshall of Sharpsburg, MD; brother Jerry Crampton of Antietam, MD; grandchildren Tasha, Phillip, Jennifer, Heather (David), Joshua (Ashley), Zachary (Jenn), Christopher (Kelsey), Jana (Eric), Daniel (Bryanna), Kaylee, and Lonnie; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Barb was also known as Tootles, Sweet Potato, and Nanny.
She was predeceased by two sisters Betty Benner and Sandy Jamison and two brothers Pete Crampton and Lonnie Crampton.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Sword officiating. Interment will be in Blair’s Valley Cemetery Clear Spring, MD.
