Hagerstown – David Lynn Carpenter, Sr.

 

David Lynn “U.S. Government” Carpenter, Sr. 61 of Hagerstown, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

Born December 14, 1959 in Hagerstown to the late Elwood Allen, Sr. and Margaret Louise Best Carpenter.

He was a 1977 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, he also received his carpentry certificate from Vo-Tech, and later received the title of Journeyman Bricklayer from ABC Inc. in Hagerstown.

David was employed with Consolidated Electric Services, LLC of Winchester, VA for the past 20 years as a purchasing agent, while also working at Fed-Ex Ground in Hagerstown as a package handler.  Prior to Consolidated, David was employed with United Masonry as a bricklayer while working in the Northern Virginia area.  He also was employed with WESCO Distribution, Inc. in Hagerstown as a purchasing agent.

David was a 50-year member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple in Hagerstown where he started as a bus rider, and later became a bus captain.  He taught second grade Sunday school, and taught the AWANA CUBBIES.

He enjoyed watching Nascar racing and professional football.  He loved family reunions and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his father-in-law. They went to truck shows and took yearly trips to Lancaster, PA.

 

Surviving is his wife, Joyce Louise “War Dept” Wolfensberger Carpenter whom he married on August 9, 1980.

A son, David L. “Archibald Leopold” Carpenter, Jr. of Hagerstown.

A daughter, Christina E. “Papooch” Miller and her husband Matthew of Canton, MI.

Brothers Elwood A. “Woody” Carpenter, Jr. and his wife Diane of Hagerstown; Charles E. Carpenter, Sr. and his wife Rose of Hagerstown; and Eddie D. Carpenter and Loretta of Maugansville.

Grandchildren: Loralei “Pebbles,” Victoria “Pippy,” Austin “Ozzie The Ostrich,” Theodore “Pepé Le Pew,” and Phineas “Pumbaa.”

In-laws, Ramon T. Joy, Sr. and Clara V. Wolfensberger Joy of Hagerstown; brothers-in-laws Ramon T. Joy, Jr. and his wife Lena of Williamsport; David B. Wolfensberger of Hagerstown; and Eric C. Dryden and his wife Jaclyn of Creston, NC.

Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother Allen E. “Butchie” Carpenter.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Emmanuel Baptist Temple in Hagerstown with Pastor Ed Hampton officiating.  Masks and social distancing are required.

Interment will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, MD.

The Osborne Funeral Home, 425 South Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD will be open on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 9 am to 5 pm for family and friends to pay their respects.  The immediate family will not be present at the funeral home.
