Elwood Dorsey Obituary

Sharpsburg, Maryland-Elwood Edgar Dorsey-87 of Sharpsburg, MD passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Monday August 3, 2020.  He was born on February 14, 1933 in Sharpsburg, MD.  He was the son of the late Frederick V. and Ethel Lee Dorsey Baker.

 

Elwood was a graduate of the 1952 class of Boonsboro High School.  As a young boy he worked on the family farm.  He started his trucking career with the Pony Express and later retired from Overnight Transportation.  He also owned and operated Dorsey Water Service as well as a picnic table business with his family.

 

Elwood was a member of the Burnside First Church of God where he served as a trustee.  He belonged to the Teamster’s Union Local 992 in Hagerstown, MD.  He served on the Sharpsburg Town Council and was a member of the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a member of Sharpsburg Rifles, part of the Potomac Home Brigade.  He was also a member of Conocoheague Tribe #84 IORM in Williamsport, MD.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Bonnie L. Grim Dorsey, daughter Cynthia Doub and her husband Denny of Hagerstown, MD, daughter Kathy Fales and her husband Scott of Greenville, NC, son Larry Dorsey and his wife Joy of Hedgesville, WV, granddaughter Kimberly Johnson and her husband Brandon of Greenville, NC, grandson Daniel Fales and his wife Sarah of Springfield, IL, grandson Jeremy Fales and his wife Holly of Greenville, NC, grandson Andrew Doub and his wife Susan of Shelbyville, KY, grandson Larry Dorsey of Hagerstown, MD, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Misty Brown.

 

Elwood enjoyed traveling with his wife, eating out and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a kind and generous man, always ready to help others.

 

The family would like to extend a thank you to Pastor Ernie Witmer for his spiritual guidance through a very difficult time and to Dr. Jeffrey Hurwitz, Dr.Michael McCormack and Hospice of Washington County for the wonderful care provided to Elwood during his sickness.  A special thank you to David and Phyllis Wyand, their wonderful neighbors of 33 years, for the love, support and kindness shown especially during Elwood’s sickness, they were always there.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday August 9, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD.  For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Sunday at 12 noon.  A mask must be worn to enter the Funeral Home.

 

Graveside services will be held on Monday August 10, 2020 at 11:00am at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, MD with Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating.
