Gary Wayne Green, Sr.

Greencastle, PA – Gary Wayne Green, Sr., 76, of Greencastle, PA passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, PA.

He was born on July 17, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Kenneth Weibrecht and Mary Elizabeth Randall.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army served honorably during Vietnam.

Gary was employed at MCI as a Correctional Officer in Hagerstown, MD for 30 years until his retirement.  He previously was employed by John R. Oliver Construction Company.  With the help of his sons, he built approximately 11-12 homes as side jobs.  He wasn’t off work much, but when he was, he enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends and frequently attended local sporting events.

He was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Hagerstown, MD.

Gary played on a West End Basketball team sponsored by Nibble Nook, they were undefeated, and Gary was very proud of that.  As a young adult he belonged to the Men’s Club at the Salvation Army and played on various baseball teams throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Linda Jeanette (Rogers) Green, whom he married on April 2, 1966; son Gary Wayne Green, Jr. and his wife Katie of Greencastle, PA; nephews Douglas Garner, David Benner, Mark Benner, John Benner, Charles Green, Larry Swope, Jr., and William Rogers, Jr.; nieces Ruth “Sissy” Miller and Cheryl Hastings; sister JoAnn Benner of Greencastle, PA; sister Maj. D. Susan Dalberg and her husband Wesley of Port Huron, MI; stepbrother Kenneth “K.C.” Wiebrecht and his wife Sharon of Hagerstown, MD; stepbrother Randy “Satch” Wiebrecht of Maugansville, MD; brother in law Bill Rogers and his wife Debbie; sister in law Margaret Swope and her husband Larry Swope, Sr.; grandchildren Dawson M. Green, Broden W. Green, and Kortny M. Green.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Scott Michael Green; brother Jack Green; sister-in-law Darlene Wiebrecht.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 11:00 am with Maj. Donald Wilson officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 am.  Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD. Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, MD.
