Hagerstown, MD – Gary Lee Hoffman, Sr., 76, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the VA Medical Center Martinsburg, WV.
He was born on December 6, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Walter Eugene Hoffman and Catherine Regina Hoffman Bragunier.
Gary was a 1964 graduate of Williamsport High School.
He was employed by the City of Hagerstown as a Firefighter for 37+ years until his retirement in 2007. He was also employed by County Medical Transport for over 25 years.
Gary was a veteran of the USMC serving during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Lifehouse Church in Hagerstown, MD.
Gary was very active in his community. He was a member and Past Commander of Potomac Post #202 American Legion Williamsport, MD, member and Past Commander of Amvets Post #10 Hagerstown, MD, founding member of Amvets Post #10 Riders, member of IAFF #1605, member of Little Club and Alsatia Club both of Hagerstown, MD. Gary was also a previous member of the honor guard of Amvets Post #10 and IAFF #1605. He was also a Past Maryland State Commander of the Amvets.
He is survived by his wife Linda E. (Levy) Hoffman whom he married on February 27, 1971; daughter Jean Marie Glenn of Hagerstown, MD; son Gary Lee Hoffman, Jr. and his wife Megan of Knoxville, MD; sister Bonnie A. Kirby of Williamsport, MD; grandchildren Chelsea, Tyler, Will, Sophie, Noah, and Lilly; great grandchildren Braelynn, Brooklynn, and Greyson; 3 stepsisters and 1 stepbrother.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 12:00 (noon) on Monday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 10:00 am with Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating. Honors will be presented by the IAFF #1605 Honor Guard with the last bell ceremony. Military honors will be provided by Clopper-Michael Post #10 American Legion Boonsboro, MD. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery in Flintstone, MD on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
