George Nichols Obituary
Hagerstown, MD – George Eugene “Gene” Nichols, 83, of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.
He was born on July 12, 1937 in Fairplay, Maryland to the late Lloyd George and Dorothy Genevieve Miller Nichols.
He was employed by Sun Chemical Corp. in Williamsport, MD for 20 years until his retirement. He previously was employed by Roper Eastern Products in Hagerstown, MD where he served as the Union President. After retirement Gene was employed with NAPA of Hagerstown, MD until 2019.
Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved to travel and take cruises with his family. He enjoyed Christmas, especially decorating for Christmas.
He was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens fan. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was of the Protestant Faith.
Gene served as a councilman for the Town of Williamsport, MD.
He was a life member of the Williamsport Volunteer Fire & EMS and a member of Potomac Post #202 American Legion in Williamsport, MD.
He is survived by his wife Nannie Elizabeth “Sue” (Castle) Nichols of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Trina Suzann Zimmerman and her husband Dennis of Williamsport, MD; granddaughter Kati S. Fitch and her husband Christian; grandson Kory L. Harp and his significant other Cassie Spicer; grandson DJ Zimmerman and his wife Jessica; great grandchildren Claire, Connor, Ryder, and Archer; his favorite furry companion “Lucy”.
He was predeceased by two brothers Harold Nichols and Ronald Nichols.
Services and burial will be private.
A celebration of life will be planned for the summer of 2021.
