Gerard Freeman Obituary

Falling Waters, WV – Gerard M. Freeman, 95, of Falling Waters, WV died at his home on July 3, 2020.

 

He was born on June 2, 1925 in Rome, NY son of the late Merritt S. Freeman and Maude Affolter Freeman. 

 

He was married on August 28, 1949 to Mary Lou Woolever.

 

Gerard was a graduate of Washington Adventist University and the University of Michigan, where he received a Master of Arts Degree in Germanic Languages and Literature.  During WWII, he served as an Army Medic in the European Theater.  He spent his career as a Federal employee for the Department of Defense working in personnel administration and enjoying travel, genealogy and language study in his spare time.  He was a member of the Williamsport Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife on 70 years, Mary Lou, and his three children; Mary Raybits and her husband Robert of Mt. Airy; Alan G. Freeman and his wife Francie of Falling Waters; and Kurt D. Freeman and his wife Dawn of Lawrenceville, GA; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

 

Besides his parents he was predeceased by three brothers Garth L. Freeman of CA, Roderick I. Freeman of Rome, NY, and an infant brother Meredith Freeman.

Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, MD on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 10:00 am with Pastor Reinhardt Stander officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council of Washington County and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, MD.

 

A celebration of life will be held at Williamsport Seventh-Day Adventist Church 16421 Lappans Rd. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 7:00 pm with Pastor Reinhardt Stander officiating. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to International Children’s Care P.O. Box 820610 Vancouver, WA 98682-0013 or a charity of your choice.
