Obituary
Williamsport, MD – Harriett Ann Downing, 91, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD.
In her early years she lived in Woodstown, NJ and moved to Williamsport, MD in the early 70’s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Merrill Downing in August 22, 1987.
She was born on September 5, 1931, in Marion, Indiana to the late Francis and Eva (Pence) Malott.
Harriett was a graduate of Marion High School in Marion, Indiana.
She was a Homemaker. She also volunteered with Hospice of Washington County. Harriett loved to play Bridge, raised 5 children, and baked all her own bread.
She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport, MD.
Harriett was an original founder of the Hagerstown Chapter of the Embroiders Guild of America.
She was a member of Aglow International (A Women’s Christian Organization).
She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Ryals and her husband Ricky of Hot Springs, AR; son Stephen Downing and his wife Judy of Sewickley, PA; daughter Teri Leiter and her husband Dave of Williamsport, MD; son Jeff Downing and his wife Dawn of Frederick, MD; son Andy Downing and his wife Janet of Las Vegas, NV; brother JoMac Malott of Indiana; grandchildren Aaron Campbell, Ashley Campbell, Brandon Campbell, Lauren Downing, Benjamin Downing, Becki Tellock, Jeremiah Leiter, Jessica Leiter, Samuel Leiter, and Megan Downing; great grandchildren Dev Campbell, Maya Campbell, William Coldsmith, Andrew Coldsmith, Jacob Leiter, Ellie Leiter, Harrison Leiter, and 1 on the way.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant daughter Lisa Marie; sister Carolee Kelley; brother Denny Malott.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 5:00 pm with Pastor Michael Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Sunday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 1:00 pm on Sunday for the convenience of family and friends. The service will be live streamed on our Facebook page.
