Clear Spring, Maryland-Joan Louise Hendershot passed into the presence of the Lord peacefully at home on February 6, 2021 at the age of 86.
Joan is survived by sister, Celia (Price) Nunamaker of Keedysville, MD; brother, Terry Price of Boonsboro, MD; sons, Gary, Jay, and Donnie Hendershot of Clear Spring, MD; son, Curtis Hendershot of Hagerstown, MD; daughter, Sharon Martin of Clear Spring, MD; and daughter, Carlene Gaylor of Hagerstown, MD. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hendershot; sisters, Janice Barnhart and Wanda Barger; brothers, Coy, Bill, Leon, and John Price; and grandson, Cody Butts.
Joan was born January 12, 1935 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Chester and Nancy (Sowers) Price. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1952 and she worked as a secretary at Fairchild Aviation until she married Carl and took on the role of dedicated farm wife and mother. Joan and Carl affectionately raised six children and shared a godly marriage for 61 years that their children and grandchildren deeply admired. Family was among Joan’s top priorities. She was always willing to lend a listening ear and she lovingly prepared family meals weekly for many years. She also enjoyed spending time traveling or painting with her sisters. Joan was a charter member of Harvest Baptist Church in Hagerstown and she could often be found reading her Bible or a devotional when a visitor arrived.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday February 11, 2021 at Harvest Baptist Church in Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Curtis Hendershot and Pastor James Moore will officiate the ceremony which will be streamed live on Facebook on Curtis Hendershot page. Interment will be private.
