Williamsport, MD- John Benjamin Hetzer, 79, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
He was born on December 25, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD to the late John Howell and Mary Katherine Swope Hetzer.
John was a 1959 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD and attended Frostburg State College.
He was employed by Mack Trucks, Inc. in Hagerstown, MD for 38 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church.
John was a member of IORM Conococheague Tribe #84 in Williamsport, MD; Potomac Fish & Game Club in Williamsport, MD; Williamsport Country Club; Washington County Sports Hall of Fame; HDH Hunting Club and Williamsport Hunt Club; Mack Golden Bulldogs; Williamsport Vol. Fire & EMS for 35 years; volunteered at the Joint Center at Washington County Hospital and Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD; Williamsport Moose Lodge; UAW Local 171 of Hagerstown, MD.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed 40 plus years of family vacations and fishing trips in Chincoteague.
He is survived by his wife Catherine L. “Cathie” Hetzer whom he married on June 18, 1976; daughter Melissa L. Hetzer of Hagerstown, MD; son John J. “Jeff” Hetzer and his wife Kim of North Carolina; daughter Linda D. Lanehart and her husband Steve of Waynesboro, PA; grandchildren Aidan Hetzer, Dennis Norris, Katie Norris, Caleb Lanehart and his wife Michelle, and Jessica Lanehart; 3 great grandchildren; special nephew Johnny Sprinkle; special nieces Carolyn Forsythe and Cindy Everly.
He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa G. Norris and sister Diane M. Statler.
The Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD will be open on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm for the convenience of family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, MD on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Dr. Ray Roberson officiating.
