Kathleen Annette (Howsare) Sigler passed peacefully on Saturday, May 7th, at the home of her daughter, Sheri, who cared for her during the past 6 months.
Kathleen was born on July 31,1938 to the late William Bruce Howsare and Eleanor Arretta (Hite) Howsare. Kathleen graduated from Beall High School in Frostburg, Md, in 1957.
Kathleen worked as a stenographer with the FBI prior to marrying and starting a family. While her children were young, she was a homemaker. She then worked for the Washington County Board of Education as a secretary in the transportation department, and finished her career by serving as secretary to the principal at Bester Elementary School in Hagerstown, MD.
Kathleen will be remembered for her wonderful smile as well as for the family meals she provided to friends and family throughout her lifetime. She loved to play bingo and tip jars.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Brian Sigler and wife Janet; Sheri Griffith and husband, Oley; Gregg Sigler; and Steve Sigler. She is survived by 9 grandchildren: Ben Sigler and fiancé
Andrea Goodman; Katie Sigler and fiancé Josh Tornetta; Andrew Griffith and wife Ashton; Alison Griffith and partner Matt Bonnette; Bryce Sigler and wife Kristin; Brittany Kesteven and partner Dave McSherry; along with Morgan, Madison and Mason Sigler. Also surviving Kathleen are 7 great-grandchildren: Victoria, Hadley, Remi, Colt, Scarlett, Everett, and Bennett. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Leonard Howsare; and Royce Howsare and wife Pauline; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Jim Sigler, her daughter-in-law Chris Sigler, and 4 brothers: Paul, George, John, and Bill Howsare.
Visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm on Thursday, May 12th at Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport, MD. The funeral home will open at 9:00 am for the convenience of friends and family. Funeral services will be conducted at Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery in Flintstone, MD, at 11:00 am on Friday, May 13th. Dennis E. Whitmore will be officiating. Kathleen will be buried with her husband, Jim.
The family wishes to thank special friend and caregiver Kay Ayers for the loving care she provided during the past 5 months. Many thanks also to Tammy Hoover and all the ladies at Still Sherry’s Beauty Salon, as well as the staff at The Yellow House. Mom was treated like a celebrity at these businesses, with staff shouting out a big “Hello, Grandma!” whenever she walked in. Others who were instrumental in Mom’s care were her son-in-law, Oley, as well as grandchildren Alison and Andrew, and Andrew’s wife Ashton.
