Larry Gene Horchner, Sr.

Fairplay, MD – Larry Gene Horchner, Sr., 81, of Fairplay, MD passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

He was born on August 29, 1939 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Carl W. Sr. and Frances E. Rowe Horchner.

He was a 1957 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD.

Larry was employed as a Salesman by Wonderbread/Hostess for 31 years until his retirement.  After retirement he worked as a salesman for Holsum Bread in Williamsport, MD.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  After getting out of the service he worked for Wardleonard Electrical Supply in Maugansville, MD.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple in Hagerstown, MD where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Church Bus Driver, and Sunday School Teacher.

Larry served at St. James Brethren Church as Sunday School Superintendent, BYC Leader, 4H Leader, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. 

He was a member of Good News Club and Teacher with Child Evangelism Fellowship. 

He was also a member of Golden Appalachian Classic Car Club in Waynesboro, PA and Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM Williamsport, MD.

He volunteered at Conococheague Little League for 20 years and served as Vice President of Senior League.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Jane Neff Horchner; son Larry G. Horchner, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Diana L. Palmer and her husband Gary Sr. of Falling Waters, WV; son Gary D. Horchner and his wife Laura of Fairplay, MD; son Timothy A. Horchner of Fairplay, MD; son Michael T. Horchner, Sr. of Hagerstown, MD; loving grandchildren Stephanie, Brittany, Gary, Jr., Jennifer, Kimberley, Dustin, Candace, Michael, Jr., Chevelle, Eric, and Chris; brother Frank Horchner of Halfway, MD.

Larry was predeceased by a grandchild Bentley C. Nalley; and three brothers Carl W. Horchner, Jr., Charles Horchner, Sr., and Raymond Horchner.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Temple Hagerstown, MD on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeffrey Messer and Pastor Tony Blackburn officiating.  Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, MD.  Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council of Washington County and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, MD.
