Laura Virginia Stockslager

Sharpsburg, MD – Laura Virginia Stockslager, 93, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at her home.

She was born on August 24, 1929, in Shepherdstown, WV to the late John Nathan Shackelford and Isabel Williams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Paul Stockslager in 2006.

Laura was a 1946 graduate of Rootstown High School.  She attended Hagerstown Business School.

She was employed by Roxbury Correctional Institute as the Business Office Manager until her retirement in 1986.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg, MD. She was formerly active in the Church’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Laura was a member of the Maryland Correctional Employees Association; Sharpsburg American Legion Auxiliary; Sharpsburg Democratic Club and previously served as Secretary and Treasurer.

Laura enjoyed cooking, crafting for church functions, ceramics, playing cards, and shopping was her favorite thing to do.

She is survived by her daughter Paula R. McMurry; grandson Brent Mosser; granddaughter Stacey Miller; 5 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 6 sisters and 7 brothers.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. 

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 209 W. Main St. Sharpsburg, MD on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Brandt Montgomery officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery Sharpsburg, MD.
