Leonard Kershner Obituary

Williamsport, MD- Leonard E. “Len” Kershner, Jr., 80, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

He was born on August 10, 1941 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Leonard E. Sr. and Thelma L. Trumpower Kershner.

He was a 1959 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD.  He was the FFA President.  He received a certificate from Columbia Technical Institute in 1966.

He was of the Protestant Faith.

Most of his life Len was a self employed livestock nutritionist.  He was very proud of his accomplishments in formulating rations for livestock, including a milk replacer formula for young fawns. He also developed a ration for long horn cattle.  He enjoyed working with farmers to help improve their herds.

In his earlier career Len was employed by Roper Eastern Products and Porter Chemical.  He and his wife owned and operated River City Farm and Pet Supply in Williamsport, which was part of the Kershner Company.

Len was the founder of Limestone Hill Animal Rescue.

Len is survived by his wife of 55 years Suzanne Lee (Harsh) Kershner.

He is survived by sisters Geraldine Beard, Dorothy Gelwicks, Vivian Moats, Mary Gelwicks, and special nieces Stacy Beard, Krissy Yesko and 13 other nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers John Kershner, Sr. and (infant) Walter Kershner; nephew Jeff Beard; niece Wendy Sylvester.

Len’s love of animals prompted him to be an advocate for all animals.  He really liked horses, especially American Quarter Horses.  His pride and joy was his Bay quarter horse stallion, Smokey’s Little Man.

Len and his wife bought a small farm in 1988.  This was his haven.  He designed the barn and all of the outbuildings.  He laid out the fencing and pastures.  He was very content to be at home on the farm.

Len was a very exact business man as a perfect inventory each week was his goal.  He was always trying to improve his business and enjoyed every minute of it.
