Marilyn Elizabeth Washburn was born on February 25, 1942 in New Britain, CT. She was the daughter of Carleton Thompson Washburn and Gladys Viola (Schneider) Washburn. At the age of six weeks she traveled to the family residence in Alexandria, VA. Marilyn and her older sister attended local schools. She graduated from George Washington HS in 1960 and Mary Washington College (Fredricksburg VA) in 1964. Her first job was as field director in Prince Georges County MD for the Camp Fire Girls. After moving to Boston, MA she worked for the local telephone company before acknowledging a long held call to the ministry. She enrolled in Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton, MA where she received a masters in divinity and was ordained in the late 1980's. Her first parish was in Tonwanda, NY followed by parishes in Concord, and Exeter NH. Finally she was called to be the minister of Faith United Church of Christ in Frederick, MD. While in Maryland she was very active in the Central Atlantic Conference of the UCC. Another activity while in MD was the Interfaith Housing Alliance in Frederick, MD. Upon retirement she moved to Homewood in Williamsport.
Marilyn enjoyed hiking, camping, skiing, knitting, and volunteering with local charities
Marilyn is survived and missed by her sister Phyllis B. (Washburn) Cooke of Bedford, MA, her niece and husband Carole and Daniel Whelton of Bedford, MA. Also by her nephew and wife David and Andrea Cooke of Tewksbury, MA and their children Jason, Matthew and Allison.
