Williamsport, Maryland-Marion Francis “Rick” Rickard, Jr. ,97 of Williamsport, MD passed away on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.
Born on February 22, 1924 in Williamsport, MD he was the son of the late Marion Francis, Sr. and Clara Mae Mentzer Rickard. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Elizabeth McCauley Rickard in 2014.
He was a 1941 graduate of Williamsport High School. Prior to WWII, Rick was employed at W.D. Byron Tannery in Williamsport and Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown. He joined the US Army during WWII and served with Company C 1878th Engineer Aviation Battalion in the Pacific Theater. After WWII he worked as a supervisor at Fairchild Aircraft, Lockheed Martin and Mack Trucks Inc.
He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #378 and Morris Frock Post #42 American Legion in Hagerstown, MD, VFW of Waynesboro, PA and Medairy Lodge #140 AF&AM in Williamsport, MD. Until recent years he was an active member and presiding officer.
Rick was a member of Paramount Baptist Church in Hagerstown, MD and previously a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport, MD where he served as Sunday School Secretary for many years and served on the Church Council and various committees. He served as Cub Scout Master and was a manager and coach for the little league and minor league in Williamsport, MD. He also served as a driver for Meals on Wheels and helped with the Williamsport Food Bank.
He is survived by a daughter in law Suzie Rickard of Hagerstown, MD and a daughter in law Kathy Rickard of Martinsburg, WV, a sister Jeanette Mae Silvers of North Carolina, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his sons James E. Rickard and Dr. Larry L. Rickard and sisters Mary Cook, Grace Pate and Ruth Taylor.
The family will receive friends on Friday April 2, 2021 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD. For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open at 9:00am on Friday. Services and burial are private.
