Mary Iola Sperow

Boonsboro, MD - Mary Iola Sperow, 81, of Boonsboro, MD, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at Charlotte’s Home residential care facility.

Born in Chestnut Grove, MD, May 18, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur John Lapole and Ellen Iola Gross Lapole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. “Buddy” Sperow, in 1975.

Mary was a proud Christian mother of four and a homemaker.

She was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg, MD.

Mary loved flowers and animals; but most of all her family. She steadfastly raised her children that she often referred to as her “little peeps.”  Mary always managed to find joy in the little things of life.

She is survived by her daughters Teresa Sperow and Mary Randler; her sons Dennis and David Sperow; eight grandchildren: Priscilla Baraka, Pamela Baraka, Mohammed Baraka, Jacob Sperow, Amanda Sperow, Dustin Staton, Matthew Sperow, Christopher Sterman; and three great grandchildren: Hannah ElRafie, Leenah ElRafie, and Leif Sterman. Mary is also survived by her fiancé, William L Deatrich Sr. and her sister Alice Whitmer.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her grandson Garrick Sperow; her sisters Marie Churchey, Ruth Lewis, Carlene Snyder, and Susan Lapole; and her brothers James Lapole and Norman Lapole.

Due to limitations, invitation only services will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021.

Mountain View cemetery in Sharpsburg, MD will be her final resting place.
