Mary Lou McGill Obituary

The Lord welcomed Mary Lou (Eaton) McGill, age 80, home to be with Him on November 14, 2019. Mary Lou was a resident of Williamsport Retirement Village and formerly resided, for 54 years, on Pinesburg Road in Williamsport, Maryland.

Born February 20, 1939, in Cumberland, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Earl Eaton, Sr. and the late Mary Trozzo - McCullough.  She was preceded in death by her wonderful father-in-law Donald McGill, her loyal mother-in-law, Laura (Lepley) McGill, her kind stepfather Lloyd McCullough, her dedicated step-mother Stella Eaton, her admirable sister-in-law Jeanne Eaton, her fun brother-in-law Donald Michael, her dear brother-in-law, William McGill and her eldest, loving sister, JoAnn Michael.

Mary Lou was a 1957 graduate of Allegany High School in Cumberland, Maryland where she was a member of their journalism team and marched with the Arrowettes.  After high school, Mary Lou worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, Langley, Virginia.  While her daughter was young, Mary Lou spent several years as a homemaker before working in the accounting department of JC Penny’s Department Store in Hagerstown.  Afterwards, she worked for twenty-five years at Miller Lumber Company in Williamsport, until she retired in 2003.

On April 2, 1960 she married her childhood sweetheart, Allan George McGill.  They have a loving daughter, Dana Peccon, and an endearing son-in-law, Kevin Peccon.  Kevin & Dana had the honor of residing beside and caring for Mary Lou when she lived at home in Williamsport.  In addition to Allan, Dana and Kevin, she is survived by her brother, Earl Eaton, Jr. of Flintstone, Maryland; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Carlene McCullough of Bedford, Pennsylvania; her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia & Carl Zinn of Fort Ashby, West Virginia; her sister, Sherry Smith of LaVale, Maryland; her step-granddaughter, Alexis Peccon of Palm Bay, Florida; several nieces & nephews, and the young man that Mary Lou considered as a grandson to her, Mason Eugene Bowers, of Williamsport, Maryland.

Mary Lou was devoted to her family and they were the most important part of her life.  A fabulous hostess, she enjoyed inviting her family and friends for dinners, holidays or any day!  Mary Lou treated people as her honored quests.  She brought joy to those around her and made everyone feel valuable. Giving to others brought her more joy than seeking her own enjoyment.

Mary Lou was tender hearted, not rude toward others, and loved them with her whole heart. She was gracious and kind, sincere and loyal.  It was an honor to know Mary Lou.

Loving others came from her decision to follow the example of Christ.  If you knew her, you saw into a life reflecting the true nature of God’s love.

She received an abundance of entertainment from a pet that she and Allan rescued, pampered and named Princess.  Her cat Princess, and her grand-dog Bunker, brought her much joy!

In her younger years, she enjoyed being in the Homemakers of Williamsport, decorating, creating pottery with her kiln, caring for her lawn, creating floral designs, and numerous home improvement projects.
