Sharpsburg, MD – Mavin Virginia (Abbott) Gossard, 79, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2021 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C.
She was born on February 8, 1942 in Grimes Station, MD to the late Marvin Peter and Vera Virginia Pike Abbott.
She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Lee “Spick” Gossard, Sr. in 2021.
Mavin was a 1960 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD.
She was employed by the Washington County School Board as a Contract Bus Driver for 55 years until her retirement.
Her family was very involved in conducting Horse Pulling Contest in the Four State Area.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Bakersville, MD.
Mavin was a member of the Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association; James Shaull Wagon Train; 4-H Leader, Pocahontas Red Feather Council 59 Williamsport Redmen, AARP; Maryland State Farm Bureau.
Mavin was also a Chief Election Judge for Washington County.
She is survived by her daughter Melva Rice and her husband Danny of Sharpsburg, MD; son Melvin L. Gossard, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Shepherdstown, WV; son Marion Gossard and his girlfriend Melissa Allen of Falling Waters, WV; sister Marilyn Smith Ashcraft of Sharpsburg, MD; grandchildren Melvin Gossard, III, Meghan Gossard, Christopher Gossard, Sean Gossard, Ronnie Gossard, Taylor Gossard, William Rice, IV, and Briar Rice; step grandson Jon; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter Kristein.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Monday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Darrell Layman, Pastor Jonathan Laye, and Rev. Richard Hembrock officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, MD.
