Melvin Eugene "Mel" McNamee, Sr.

Tilghmanton, MD – Melvin Eugene “Mel” McNamee, Sr., 94, of Tilghmanton, MD passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD.

He was born on March 22, 1926 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Pierce Lester and Helen Rebecca (Nail) McNamee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jane “Dottie” (Fuss) McNamee on November 6, 1988.

Mel was employed by Maryland Correctional Institute in Hagerstown, MD for 38 years until retiring in 1988.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.

He was of the Protestant Faith.

He was a member of W.D. Byron Post #1936 VFW of Hagerstown, MD; Amvets Post #10 of Hagerstown, MD; Dixon-Troxell Post #211 American Legion of Funkstown, MD; life member of Goodwill Athletic (Little’s Club) of Hagerstown, MD; life member of Conococheague Sportsman’s Club of Sharpsburg, MD.

Mel enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing with his family, and was always a good provider for his family.

He is survived by his daughter H. Rebecca McNamee of Houston, TX; son Melvin E. “Jimmy” McNamee, Jr. and his wife Mary of Cearfoss, MD; son Randall P. “Randy” McNamee and his wife Betty of Williamsport, MD; son Phillip F. “Phil” McNamee and his wife Patricia of Sharpsburg, MD; son Wesley S. “Wes” McNamee and his wife Karla of Huyetts Crossroads, MD; grandchildren Chad McNamee (Holly), Bradley McNamee (Savannah), Benjamin McNamee, and Spencer McNamee; great grandchildren Ethan, Carley, Colton, and Cassidy.

He was predeceased by two sisters Mildred Benchoff and Catherine Wright; two brothers Calvin McNamee and Warren McNamee.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dwayne Musgrove Hospice Chaplain officiating.  Military graveside honors will be provided by Joint Veteran Council of Washington County and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, MD.  Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, MD.
