Norma Jean (Shafer) Horning

Williamsport, MD – Norma Jean (Shafer) Horning, 70, of Williamsport, MD passed on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD.

She was born on January 8, 1953, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Staley and Florence Almeda (Gsell) Shafer.

Norma was a 1972 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Horning in December of 2017.

Norma was a homemaker along with having many other jobs throughout her life.

She was of the Christian faith.

Norma grew up on a farm where she learned to have a love for horses. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and gardening. Norma especially loved all her grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter Tina Horning and her son Elijah Horning; son James “Rob” Horning and his wife Kira and their children Bryson and Anastasia; 4 stepsons Samuel Horning, James W. Horning, Jr., Jeffrey Horning, and Paul Horning; numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma was predeceased by a sister Donna Lee Renner and 2 brothers Gregory Lynn Shafer and James V. Cassidy.

A memorial service will be held at The Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday September 1, 2023, at 6:00 pm with Deacon Paul Nicholas officiating. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service from 5:00 – 6:00 pm.
