Ray Hartle, Sr. Obituary

Ray H. Hartle Sr, 85 of Boonsboro, MD passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 7, 1935, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late John Hartle and the late Bessie (Sager) Hartle.   Ray spent his life in the Washington County area.

Ray was a hard worker, working in construction all of his life.  He retired from Callas Contractors, Inc., after many years.

Ray was a Christian by Faith.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.  Ray loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time in his garden.  He often could be found working for hours in the garden.  Even as his age began to diminish his flexibility, he still had a small garden outside his back door.  Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Philadelphia Phillies and spending time with his four-legged furry best friend, Riley.  Ray loved sports and there wasn’t a ballfield or sports spot that he didn’t know of as he was often seen at his children’s and grandchildren’s events.  His mind was as sharp as a tack as he read the newspaper every day from cover to cover to stay informed.  If it wasn’t the paper he was reading, he would often be found playing solitaire for hours.  He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris (Smith) Hartle, three daughters:  Pamela Butts & husband, Randy of Boonsboro, MD, Brenda Castle & husband, Bobby of Funkstown, MD, Tinna Mahoney & husband, John of Hagerstown, MD, four sons:  Ray Hartle Jr, & wife, Lisa of Mercersburg, PA, Terry Hartle of Boonsboro, MD, John Hartle & wife Stephanie of Keedysville, MD, and Steve Hartle & wife, Andrea of Keedysville, MD.
He is survived by 13 grandchildren, Chris Butts, Brandy Krietz, Bobby Castle, Shenna Carroll, Josh Smith, Heather Geary, Randi Miller, Ryan Kumsher, Troy Hartle, Tristan Hartle, Bryce Hartle, Aaron Hartle and Sydney Hartle and 11 Great-grandchildren.

Additionally, Ray is survived by his sister, Fannie “Butchie” Huntzberry and husband, Donald of Hagerstown, MD and a brother Johnny Hartle, Hagerstown, MD.

In addition to his parents, Ray was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ann (Hartle) Horn, Betty Hartle, Juanita Hartle, and two brothers, Jerry Hartle and Donald (Bubby) Hartle.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Sunday, November 15, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  The funeral home will be open at 12:00 (noon) on Sunday for the convenience of family and friends.
