Richard Mumma Obituary

Hagerstown, Maryland-Richard William “Dick” Mumma, 75 of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Sunday January 17, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD surrounded by his loving wife and children.

 

Born in Hagerstown, MD on November 11, 1945, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Helen Minerva Fisher Mumma.

 

He was a 1964 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, MD and received an Associate of Arts degree from Hagerstown Junior College.  He served in the Maryland National Guard.  He was a Lieutenant and Police Officer with the Hagerstown Police Department for over 30 years until retiring in 1997.

 

Dick was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Hagerstown, MD.  He was also a member of Thomas Pangborn Lodge #88 F.O.P. in Hagerstown, MD, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #378 Hagerstown, MD, Morris Frock Post #42 American Legion Hagerstown, MD, the NRA, United Pigeon Combine where he raised, trained and was successful in competitive racing.  He was a past member of Moose Lodge #212 Hagerstown, MD.  He coached in youth baseball, softball, basketball and was active with the Children’s Village in Hagerstown, MD.  He was involved with Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run which he participated in.  He was a very proud patriot and a true conservative.  Dick enjoyed the outdoors, vacations at the beach and loved all types of animals especially his dogs Rex and Bree.  He also enjoyed investing in real estate and all types of auctions.

 

Dick is survived by his wife Betty “BJ” McClanathan Mumma whom he married on October 26, 1991, a daughter Shawn M. Mumma of Hagerstown, MD, a son Michael T. Mumma of Gaithersburg, MD, a daughter Stacy Farrow Harnish and her husband Chuck of Hagerstown, MD, grandchildren Caroline B. Rosenthal and Michael J. Rosenthal and a great grandson Oliver M. Fisher.  He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend Cynthia L. Tucker and nephews Eric Mumma and Christopher Mumma.

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Ron Farrow, Jr. and his brothers Edward Mumma and Thomas Mumma.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday January 24, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795.  For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open at 1:00pm on Sunday.  At 7:00 pm Sunday evening,Thomas Pangborn Lodge #88 F.O.P will conduct a memorial service.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday January 25, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD.
