Waynesboro, Pennsylvania-Sgt. Major (Retired) James Edward Whitt, 93 of Waynesboro, PA passed away on Friday January 22, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.
Born on February 28, 1927 in Pax, West Virgina, he was the son of the late Virgil G. and Berta C. Horch Whitt.
He was preceded in death by his wife on January 28, 2016 whom he married on October 29, 1955 in Pirmasens, Germany.
He was a 1945 graduate of Pax High School.
He served for 30 years in the United States Army and retired as a Sgt. Major in 1975 after serving in Vietnam.
He was of the Protestant faith.
After retiring from the Army he worked at Blaine Hardware in Hagerstown, MD for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Waynesboro, PA. He loved spending time with family, gardening and bird watching.
He is survived by a son Edward P. Whitt and wife Donna of Clear Spring, MD, a son Charles A. Whitt and wife Julie of Hagerstown, MD, a son Ronald N. Whitt and wife Lori of Hagerstown, MD, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with 3 on the way and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son James Whitt, a granddaughter Dawn Trousdale, a great grandson Jayse Ebersole and a half brother Alfred Whitt.
There will be no viewing and burial will be private at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
