Our beautiful wife and mother, Sheila Lynn (Knight) Waters, 71, of Sharpsburg, Maryland passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 14, 1951 in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of Leon and Ethel (Crampton) Knight.
Sheila, a graduate of Boonsboro High School, was a feisty, energetic lady who enjoyed everything life had to offer. Young Sheila met the love of her life (Pete) on a hayride, resulting in a 54 year marriage and a daughter (Amy).
Pete and Sheila had many adventures. During their time together, they met many wonderful people who enhanced their journey here on earth. They visited all 50 states, many exotic beaches and went on multiple cruises. A personal favorite vacation was when she took her parents on an Alaskan cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was a very hard worker and held many different jobs throughout her life. But the “job” she enjoyed the most was being a devoted and loving wife and mother. In this role, she truly excelled. She loved to garden, specializing in flowers and tomatoes. She prided herself on her skills as an excellent cook, an immaculate house keeper, and a “supervisor” to Pete and Amy – which was, indeed, a difficult assignment.
She is survived by husband Lloyd “Pete” Waters; daughter Amy K. Waters-Parasiliti and her husband Robert Parasiliti; brother Roger Knight and sister Helen (Lionel) Abbott; and many extended family members. She enjoyed special lifelong relationships with Sharon Ingram and Wanda Poffenberger, who always seemed to bring a smile to her face.
Sheila focused on the well-being of others, seeking out those who needed a little extra assistance. She frequently visited those who were sick and could be counted on to provide support and assistance to those having difficult times. She had a humble servant’s heart and was most concerned about those in need but rarely talked about it. She preferred to serve quietly.
She attended Burnside First Church of God where she assisted in kitchen events and sales. Sheila always enjoyed participating in these events and especially liked those she worked with there. In fact, she was known to play a few pranks and share a joke or two. Her sense of humor was only one way in which she brought joy to others.
We love you Sheila and are sure going to miss you. You, most certainly, were a special gift from God.
Dr. Seuss once wrote “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” Although there are tears, the smiles you have provided us are countless.
The family will receive friends at the Ramada Inn/Fireside Restaurant (Cumberland Room) at 1716 Underpass Way Hagerstown, Maryland on Thursday August 3 from 5–8 pm.
A funeral service will be held at Burnside First Church of God at 3904 Mills Road Sharpsburg, Maryland on Friday August 4 at 11 am. Chaplain Lindsey E. Arnold will officiate. Immediately following the services, there will be a luncheon at the church.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you do a random act of kindness in Sheila’s memory.
