Shelva Buzzerd Obituary

Shelva Jean (Miller) Buzzerd, 85, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 following a long illness.

 

Shelva Jean was born on February 8, 1937 in Williamsport, MD.  She was the daughter of the late Loretta (Byers) Miller and Clyde (Pat) Miller, Sr.

 

She was preceded in death by 2 nephews P. Lynn Miller in 2006 and Michael Shane Miller in 2015.

 

Shelva Jean had an exciting and impressive nursing career, which earned her many awards of excellence in nursing.  Her nursing career included Public Health/School Nurse, Neurology Nursing at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD (Med/Surgery) and Washington County Hospital (Med/Surgery) where in 1984 she and two colleagues were instrumental in establishing Washington County Home Health Care Agency.

 

She was a field nurse during the late 1990’s.  She accepted an administrative position to develop and implement reimbursement coordinator and later developed and implemented utilization review co-coordinator positions.

 

She retired in 2001 from the Washington County Hospital, but later returned to work at Homewood as their Director of Adult Day Care from 2002-2005 until the center closed.

 

While Shelva Jean enjoyed a long and successful nursing career, she viewed her 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandsons as her greatest accomplishments.

 

She was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church in Williamsport, MD.

 

She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises, along with cooking and entertaining family and friends.  She also enjoyed collecting Angels and playing Bridge.

 

She is survived by her daughter Christina (Chris) Skrabak of Hagerstown, MD; son William (Will) Buzzerd and wife Tracy of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren Sarah (Hoffman) Funk and her husband David of Hagerstown, MD, Jordyn Buzzerd and fiancee’ Sydney McPhie of Reston, VA, Kathrine Skrabak of Hagerstown, MD, Landon Buzzerd and girlfriend Amy Metz of Pittsburgh, PA, Joseph Skrabak of Chambersburg, PA; 3 great grandsons Logan, Benjamin, and Maverick Funk; brother Clyde (Pat) Miller, Jr. and his wife Joann of Williamsport, MD; brother William (Skip) Miller and his wife Cheryl of Hagerstown, MD; nieces Sali Miller of Williamsport, MD, Stacy (Miller) Zisa and her husband Rob of Hagerstown, MD, Suzanne (Miller) Kyler of Hagerstown, MD; nephew Scott Miller of Colorado; numerous great nieces and great nephews.

 

Private interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Williamsport, MD.
